November cover dusts up

“Neatnik Diva” Marie Krull fluffs her feather duster on the
cover of our latest issue, you might say in the face of competitors who just
can’t keep up with the job done by Pro One Janitorial. The company brings in
about $10 million in annual revenue and has seen business increase about 25
percent in each of the past two years, in spite of the slowdown in the economy.

When we captured Marie’s playful approach during the photo
shoot at Image Studios, she chatted between takes about how a Londoner landed
in Packer country and made her way to co-owner and leader of one of the area’s
most successful commercial cleaning enterprises. At the time, she was gearing
up for the nitty-gritty work of preparing the newly-constructed Encircle Health
Building before its big opening in Appleton. She certainly doesn’t have to roll
up her sleeves these days – the lion’s share of the company’s jobs are done by
employees of the 100 Pro One franchises in three states. But she came to the
photo shoot with a strap-on vacuum cleaner, assorted mops, sponges and a bucket
of Pro One branded products, many of them developed to meet the demand of the
environmentally-safe, green market. (Alas, the hot pink, fluffy-sleeved gloves
ordered by our creative director, Jeff Amstutz of A2Z Design, for the shoot
didn’t arrive in time.)

Dean Race, Marie’s husband and Pro-One co-owner, spends his
summers “working” on his latest venture: a gold prospecting company in Alaska.
It’s true, a cleaning company and a gold-panning company are two totally
different business models, but Dean and Marie are truly a team, and we couldn’t
resist sharing his story, too. Check it out!
