Faith
Technologies of Menasha is wasting no time in helping businesses save some
green.

The
company created an electrical savings widget – a lighting savings calendar –
that can be used on the newly-released iPad.

The
widget is hosted on the company’s website and is being promoted via social
media.

The
calculator determines lighting energy savings in manufacturing, warehouse and
office environments. Excessive electrical consumption is both expensive for
companies, as well as damaging for the environment. Commercial buildings
account for 70 percent of the nation’s total electricity consumption.

To
calculate savings, users enter in their type of existing lighting fixtures, the
quantity, the number of hours per day and the number of days per week the
lights are running. The calculator then recommends replacement lighting
fixtures to calculate their savings per year. The calculator determines how
many watts the existing fixtures expend versus the recommended fixtures, and
the annual savings both in kW/hours and dollars.
To stay ahead of quickly advancing technology, the calculator was also created
to be viewed on the iPad. “As mobile technology evolves and more people are
looking to stay connected while on the go, Faith Technologies felt it was
important that the widget be viewed across multiple platforms,” says Tom Clark,
director of marketing.

In some cases, electrical retrofitting projects have
yielded a 25 to 40 percent cost savings annually. In addition to annual
savings, there can also be government incentives available to offset the new
fixtures.
