The 2011 Northeast Wisconsin Business Plan Competition is accepting entries through Jan. 10.

Started in 2004, the contest was designed encourage the preparation of business plans for starting businesses, as well as changes to existing businesses or the launch of a new product in northeast Wisconsin.

A total of $25,000 in prizes will be awarded this year: $10,000 for first place, $6,000 for second place, $4,000 for third place, $3,000 for fourth place and $2,000 for fifth place.

“This competition is a great opportunity for entrepreneurs or existing small business owners to take the next step in establishing or growing their company,” says New North Executive Director Jerry Murphy.  “In addition to the prize money, the exercise of creating a business plan – and receiving feedback from business leaders in the region – is very valuable for companies and entrepreneurs of all stripes.”

Entrants are asked to provide an executive summary and a business plan that outline the opportunity, risks, and weaknesses of the prospective business, and outline where the company is going, how it will get there, and what it will look like when it arrives.

Finalists for last year’s contest include VibeTech, Inc., Door Landscape and Nursery, Hilde’s Deli & Bakery, LLC, Bill-Ray Home Mobility, LLC, and Big Bubble Cup.
