Cherney Microbiological Services Ltd. breaks ground tomorrow on an expansion that will triple its size.
The Green Bay company is one of Wisconsin’s top firms specializing in microbiological testing and technical support for manufacturing companies.
When I talked to owner and microbiologist Deb Cherney last summer for a story in the August issue of Insight, she alluded to the coming expansion and it’s exciting to see the project moving ahead. Cherney started the business with just three employees (including herself) in the Green Bay business incubator. The company steadily grew over time before moving to its current site on the city’s eastside in 2000.
“Our customer base is growing and we have added new services and employees to meet that demand,” Cherney says. “Our new building will allow us the room to grow with our customers and continue to provide the speed and accuracy they demand.”
The expansion will result in a state-of-the-art laboratory, designed with functionality, safety and performance in mind. “Every part of the operation will gain valuable square footage for increased capacity,” says Cherney, who adds the lab will be redesigned using Six Sigma and lean concepts.
With growing attention paid to the safety of the nation’s food supply – just one recall can devastate a producer – Cherney is poised now for even more growth. Just like the microbes Cherney and her team look for everyday.
