The innovation that has helped Orion Energy Systems Inc. of Manitowoc succeed is what’s needed to help America succeed, President Barack Obama told employees and area residents of the energy-efficient lighting system developer this morning.
Obama is touring Orion today along with two other companies in Manitowoc following last night's State of the Union address.
“America needs to get behind entrepreneurs like Neil Verfuerth,” founder of Orion, the president said in his address just before noon. “The jobs here at Orion are the kind we need in America. They not only make energy cheaper, but they also make our planet cleaner.”
When Orion first opened its Manitowoc operations in 2004, the company had one employee. Today, it employs more than 250.
“That’s the kind of job creation I’m talking about,” Obama said. “We need to play to win when it comes to innovative technologies like the kind created here.”
