I’ll admit when I first received the assignment to interview Steve Ward about his upcoming presentation at the Blend: Building Leadership Encouraging New Direction Conference, I did an eye roll. What, I wondered, could someone made famous by a reality show tell me (or anyone else) about how to succeed in business?
I was wrong. Turns out that Ward, who studied business at Drexel University in Philadelphia, knows quite a bit about business success and not just because he was able to turn a matchmaking business with his mother into a million dollar success.
“Business – whatever kind you are in – is relationship orientated whether you like it or not,” says Ward, who stars on “VH1 Tough Love,” a series that provides viewers with a look inside the male perspective on love and dating. “Making a good relationship work – whether it’s professional, platonic or romantic – is like dealing with a lock. You need to find the right key or combination to make it work.”
Blend will be held from 7:30 to 11:15 a.m. March 31 at The Marq in DePere.
Ward says professionals need to treat their business partners – whether it’s a co-worker, client or perspective client – with the same care they would a family member or friend. “It’s about what you can offer them and that you’re there for them,” he says. “If you act like that, it’s more likely the person will do business with you.”
And whether you’re dealing with someone on a professional or personal basis, Ward says it all comes down to “communication, respect and trust. If that’s in your relationship, it will be a success.”
In addition to Ward’s keynote address, Blend will feature networking opportunities and a panel discussion featuring Ward and local business executives.
