New North firms win state manufacturing honors

Two Northeast Wisconsin companies received prestigious honors Thursday during the annual Wisconsin Manufacturer of the Year Award ceremonies in Milwaukee.

Briess Industries of Chilton won the top manufacturer prize in the medium company size category, for companies with 100 – 299 employees. Briess was recognized for putting together a strategic plan eight years ago that has doubled their sales and operating income, giving them a strong financial backbone. The company has a diverse product portfolio, allowing them to maintain a competitive edge even when external issues may affect their markets. Briess is active in the community and encourages their customers’ demand to spur new product innovation.

Plexus Corp. of Neenah received the Customer Commitment Special Award for the way it grows and delivers on long-lasting customer relationships. Plexus was recognized for its commitment to retaining its manufacturing presence in the Americas as it strives to help customers with their global product fulfillment strategies.

In addition to Briess and Plexus, five other Wisconsin companies were honored as part of the manufacturer of the year program. Other honorees include GE Healthcare Imaging Subsystems of Milwaukee, which won in the mega and sustainability categories; Dickten Masch Plastics of Waukesha, which won in the large category;  Hydro-Thermal Corp. of Waukesha, which won in the small category; Atlas Resin Proppants of Taylor, which received as special  team commitment to the community award; and HWD Acquisition, dba Hurd Windows & Doors, of  Medford, which won a special local to global commitment award.

The accounting and advisory firm of Baker Tilly, the law firm of Michael Best & Friedrich LLP and the business association Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce sponsor the awards program.
