Fox Valley Technical College is sponsoring a Sustainability Speaker Series event from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at its D.J. Bordini Center, 5 Systems Drive, Appleton. Speakers include Mike Kapalko, sustainability marketing manager at SCA Tissue, North America; Greg Bell, executive director of the Smart Business Forum; and Gary Kusnierz, vice president of Performance Excellence for Affinity Health System. The second seminar in a three-part series designed to educate and empower the entrepreneurial spirit on the Lakeshore will be held at 6 p.m. on April 18 at Lakeshore Technical College. The speakers will be Caitlin Brotz, owner of Sheboygan’s Olivu426 and business improvement district president, and Randy Schwoerer, Sheboygan Harbor Centre business improvement district manager. Brotz and Schwoerer will share strategies designed to revitalize downtowns and businesses despite recent economic challenges. The event is free.

A workshop on the common pitfalls of HR management will be held from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. April 19 at the Fox Cities Chamber of Commerce in Appleton. Mary Felton, president of HR Business Partners LLC, will lead the workshop which will look at federal and state labor laws and help business owners and managers know if they are complying with requirements. The 9th annual Northeastern Wisconsin Global Trade Conference will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on April 19 at the KI Convention Center in Green Bay. The event is a collaboration of the Highway 41 Corridor International Development Program which consists of the Fox Cities, Fond du Lac, Green Bay Area and Oshkosh Chambers of Commerce and their respective economic development partners. Wisconsin Department of Commerce Secretary Paul Jadin, a northeast Wisconsin native who now leads the state’s economic development agency, will speak at the April 20 meeting of the Wisconsin Innovation Network Northeast Chapter at the DJ Bordini Center on the Fox Valley Technical College campus. Jadin will discuss economic development initiatives led by the Commerce Department, which will become the Wisconsin Economic Development Corp., a public-private authority, effective July 1.Registration and networking begin at 4:45 p.m. The cost is $5 for WIN members, $5 for students, $10 for non-members and included with WIN corporate memberships. The Green Bay Area Chamber of Commerce’s Business & Breakfast on April 21 at the F.K. Bemis International Center at St. Norbert College will focus on sustainability. Dan Roarty and Naletta Burr of Dimension IV will ask leaders for their answers on how Northeast Wisconsin is incorporating sustainable practices into everyday life.
