Here’s a look at some upcoming activities in the New North:

Short Elliott Hendrickson Inc. is hosting a workshop on biogas opportunities in Wisconsin and the New North from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at its offices in Appleton. The workshop will look at transitioning the old energy economy-built on coal and petroleum-to homegrown energy sources like biogas and biomass to create power, heat and alternative fuels. The Wisconsin Bioenergy Initiative has published a strategic plan to bring business leaders and policymakers together to discuss how to make it happen. Pulse, the Young Professionals Network, is teaming up with Appleton Downtown Inc. from 5:15 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 25 at Houdini Plaza. Members will learn more about ADI from executive director Jennifer Stephany. Afterwards, attendees can stay around for a concert featuring The Circus. The New North Sustainability Committee is planning a workshop on Sept. 13 at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay to discuss what needs to be done to prepare the region for climate change. The workshop is designed for planners and other professionals and will address land use, public health, stormwater, emergency preparedness and natural resource management issues. The  workshop will look at the climate change science and the effect the issue has on the New North; climate adaptation planning processes and strategies; tools, data and resources for climate adaptation planning; and regional examples of climate planning. The Wisconsin Security Research Consortium is planning its Resource Rendezvous at the Crowne Plaza in Wauwatosa on Sept. 15. Speakers from the National Security Agency, the U.S. Marine Corps, the National Institutes of Health, the Department of Homeland Security and more are expected. This event offers opportunities for companies to present their ideas to federal science and technology scouts and offers seminars on how to prepare your company to apply for federal grants and contracts. Converting Influence Inc. is holding a half-day event, featuring a panel discussion on efficiency, exhbits, networking and lunch on Sept. 15 at Fox Valley Technical College in Grand Chute.
