The Fond du Lac Association of Commerce and the Fond du Lac County Economic Development Corporation have agreed to pursue a merger into a single economic development entity.

Boards of directors from the two organizations approved a resolution Thursday accepting the recommendations of consulting firm McCarthy/Blansett Group. The joint resolution sets in motion an effort to merge and reinvent the separate organizations as an entirely new organization with a single board of directors, CEO and new name.

The new organization will work to continue to strengthen workforce and economic development within Fond du Lac County.

A steering committee of public and private sector leaders will be formed immediately to drive and oversee the reorganization process. This committee will engage a recruitment firm to begin the search for a CEO for the new organization. Recruitment is expected to be complete by spring. In the meantime, the steering committee will appoint a transitional director for the new organization to lead the work that needs to be completed prior to hiring of a full time CEO.

The resolution further states that consideration will be given to this new organization being the future home to ongoing Envision Fond du Lac initiative work.

Finally, the resolution includes publishing of a county-wide and regional communications plan announcing the formation of the new entity, its purpose and the major milestones in its formation.

Current AC and FCEDC staff and Boards of Directors will continue to focus on business as usual over the next number of months while work is in process to shape the new organization. The various programs from both organizations will continue and carry into the new organization.
