New routes, larger aircraft and greater frequency of flights powered Appleton International Airport (ATW) to its ranking as the fourth fastest-growing airport in the country.

According to a study released by Bloomberg, airline seats jumped 26.8 percent during the past two years at the Greenville-based airport.

“ATW’s growth is due to more and more people in Northeast Wisconsin realizing how convenient and affordable it is to fly right from Appleton, no long drive, and no long lines,” Airport Director Abe Weber said in a press release.

This year may prove the best yet for Appleton as airline service continues to grow, Weber said.  Starting this Friday, United Airlines will begin daily nonstop service to Denver.
