Students always ask themselves, “when will I use this information in real life?” when studying in school, and the NEW Manufacturing Alliance is back to answer that question with the premiere of its latest “Get Real Math” video series.
The Alliance will debut the new series at the Meyer Theatre in Green Bay on Tuesday, Oct. 2 from 5-7:30 p.m. Since 2014, NEWMA has worked with companies to create 50 videos — each including a lesson plan — to help showcase how classroom learning can apply to real-world problems.
Companies debuting the newest videos at the Meyer Theatre include Fincantieri Marinette Marine, Georgia-Pacific, Kohler Co., TIDI Products and Werner Electric.
Educators will be the stars at event, walking down a red carpet and having their pictures being taken. Several prizes will be given away, including a Miller welding machine and $500 cash awards to two math departments and two tech ed departments.
The video premiere marks the kick-off of Wisconsin’s “October is Manufacturing Month.” Throughout the month, NEWMA is sponsoring busing for hundreds of students to participate in plant tours.
NEWMA also sponsors the Manufacturing First Expo & Conference at the KI Convention Center. The Oct. 24 event features more than 180 exhibitors and keynote speaker Bob Chapman, CEO of Barry-Wehmiller and bestselling author of “Everybody Matters: The Extraordinary Power for Caring for Your People like Family.” The Alliance also will host its annual Excellence in Manufacturing/K-12 Partnerships Awards dinner at the KI Convention Center on Oct. 23.
Attending the “Get Real Math” premiere is free but requires advance registration. Visit http://newmfgalliance.org/events to register for the premiere, Manufacturing First or the Excellence in Manufacturing/K-12 Partnerships Awards.
