New North Inc. has named the final speaker for its popular “ED Talks” at the New North Summit on Dec. 6 at the Fox Cities Exhibition Center in Appleton. Phil Flynn, president and CEO of Associated Bank, will join previously announced speakers Michelle Schuler of Microsoft TechSpark Wisconsin and Mary Goggans of Encapsys, LLC, in making the ED Talks, which are New North Inc.’s version of TED Talks and focus on economic development themes.

“We are excited to have the insights of Michelle, Phil and Mary on talent development and being aware of and connected to the community,” Jerry Murphy, executive director of New North Inc. said in a statement. “All three maximize networking each day in their business and can share how they successfully leverage it.”

Schuler’s ED Talk will highlight civic engagement activity in the region and how the shortage of technology workers is being addressed, while Goggans’ talk will focus on Encapsys technology and present the company’s opportunity to provide college students with high-tech internships to keep high-potential talent in Northeast Wisconsin.

Flynn, who has nearly 40 years of experience in the financial services industry, will focus his ED Talk on the regional, state and national landscape for perspective on what’s driving economic development. It will provide a unique view of the connections that businesses, community organizations and other groups can create to drive opportunity for the region.

Along with the three ED Talks, the New North Summit is designed to provide attendees with extensive networking opportunities and the sharing of regional success stories. New North Inc. also will provide an overview of economic and talent-development initiatives in the region over the past year with a look ahead to 2019.

Online registration for the summit is at www.newnorthsummit.com. The registration fee is $90, increasing to $100 at the door on the day of the event. Student tickets are available for $15.
