St. Norbert College will hold a State of the Economy event on Thursday, Feb. 14, at 8 a.m. in the Hendrickson Dining Room of the F. K. Bemis International Center, 299 Third St., on the college campus.
The event will consist of a 45-minute presentation followed by a question-and-answer session. It’s free and open to the public. Beverages and scones will be provided.
Presented by the Center for Business & Economic Analysis at the college’s Donald J. Schneider School of Business & Economics, the event is designed both for area professionals looking for more economic data ahead of executing their business planning and for individuals who are generally interested in the regional and national economy. This year, a second session focused on the transportation and logistics sector in the economy has been added.
Marc Schaffer, associate professor of economics and director of the Center for Business & Economic Analysis at the college, will be joined by students of the Schneider School in presenting an in-depth look at factors affecting the economy. Key topics will include gross domestic product, unemployment and inflation, and major economic changes with short-term effects, including regional economic highlights. This part of the program will run until 9 a.m.
A brief coffee and networking break will follow Schaffer’s presentation and Q&A. St. Norbert College junior Casie Bartels of Green Bay will then present on “Regional Transportation and Industry Cluster Analysis” from 9:15 to 9:35 a.m. Then from 9:40 to 10 a.m., Brett Wetzel, director of applied knowledge at Breakthrough, will present on “Economic Trends in Transportation and Logistics Markets.”
Attendees can register for the first session, both sessions or come just for the last session. The event is sponsored by Associated Bank. To learn more or register, visit www.snc.edu/sync/stateofeconomy.html.
