C.D. Smith Construction Inc. of Fond du Lac was awarded the excavation and concrete work for Foxconn Technology Group’s Gen 6 display manufacturing facility in Racine County.

This week, Foxconn announced it awarded $13 million in contracts to three companies for the plant’s initial construction work. In addition, PSI Intertek, which has an office in Waukesha, but is based in Arlington Heights, Ill., received the contract for materials testing for the foundations, while the Milwaukee office of Farmington, Conn.-based Otis Elevator Co. was named the subcontractor for elevator work.

The contracts are the first awards for construction of the main display factory at the heart of Foxconn Technology Group’s Wisconn Valley Science and Technology Park, said Peter Buck executive director of the technology park. He said construction is expected to begin in June.

It’s uncertain what other contracts may be awarded this year for the Mount Pleasant site. The state website created to keep businesses updated on opportunities currently shows no open bid opportunities.
