Summer is always a tough time for the Community Blood Center as donors head out of town on vacation just as the need for blood is at its highest. To counter that, the blood center is partnering with Fox Cities business and community leaders to encourage donations and collect 600 units of blood during the week of July 1-7.

The leaders will use social media and other methods to encourage people to donate for their team. That extra attention should help spur blood donations, which will help the area hospitals who rely on the Community Blood Center for their blood supply.

Participating leaders include Jason Druxman of Avenue Jewelers, Lisa Cruz of Red Shoes, Inc., Mark Duerwaechter of Kaukauna Public Schools, Kyla King of Green Bay Oncology and Josh Dukelow of WHBY.

Donors just need to tell the blood center whose team they’re supporting when they arrive. At the end of the week, the person whose team recorded the most donations will win not only bragging rights, but a small prize package including a trophy.

To donate, visit one of the Community Blood Center’s four neighborhood donor centers.

The Community Blood Center was established in Appleton in 1955 and provides a safe and reliable blood supply to hospitals in northeast Wisconsin, the Northwoods and Upper Michigan.
