Silgan Containers is closing its Waupun facility, putting an estimated 70 employees out of work.
The California-based Silgan filed notice with the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development that it plans to close its metal container manufacturing facility by Nov. 8. Silgan Containers has operated in Waupun for nearly 32 years.
Silgan President Adam Greenlee said in a news release that the decision to close the plant was difficult and he thanked dedicated employees for their service.
“At Silgan, these decisions are driven by a relentless pursuit to lower our overall cost structure, improve operating efficiencies and enhance our leading competitive position in our metal container business,” he said.
Silgan is a supplier of metal food containers and has more than a dozen manufacturing facilities nationwide.
