Eagle Performance Plastics celebrates 50 years

Eagle Performance Plastics, Inc. was officially founded Jan. 1, 1971, when brothers-in-law David Bailin and Ivor Lewis purchased the plastics division of I. Bahcall Industries in Appleton. The company was originally named Eagle Supply & Plastics because the building they operated from was the old, long defunct Eagle Manufacturing Co., which made tractors and other agricultural equipment. Dave and Ivor, along with their small team, established a name for themselves by delivering value to customers, treating everyone fairly, and doing business in an open and honest manner.

At the beginning, the business was primarily a distributor of plastic stock shapes such as sheets, rod and tubes. It also sold many industrial supplies including hose, gaskets, pipe and fittings, pumps, and tanks to local manufacturing companies in the Fox Valley and around Wisconsin. Eagle also provided light fabricating and value-added services such as cutting to size, drilling holes and other simple operations.

During the late 1980s, Eagle began to enhance its value-added capabilities by installing their first machining equipment with a manual mill and manual lathe. Over time, significant investment in the latest CNC equipment and CAD/CAM software has resulted in a shop that can produce virtually any type of performance plastic component that can be designed.

In fact, over the last 25 years, Eagle has gradually phased out the distribution of materials and industrial supplies to focus on custom machined plastic components for original equipment manufacturers. Primary industries served include packaging and food processing as well as material handling, military, medical and heavy equipment. Today, Eagle serves customers across the United States and Canada.

In addition to providing extremely responsive and reliable service, one of Eagle’s key objectives is to educate and inform customers on the values of utilizing performance-grade plastics in their equipment designs. Components made from performance-grade plastics possess key attributes and benefits including weight reduction and low coefficient of friction, which reduces energy consumption, as well as improved efficiency and speed.

In 2013, Eagle moved into a brand new modern 42,000-square-foot, climate-controlled facility in Appleton. The building was carefully designed and laid out according to lean principles for efficient operation. The company operates using ISO 9001:2015 standards and methods. Now known as Eagle Performance Plastics, the name change from Eagle Supply & Plastics, reflects the company’s evolution from an industrial distributor to a manufacturer of high-performance plastic components, which utilizes state-of-the-art CNC equipment and computer software in the production process.

Today, Eagle Performance Plastics is owned by second generation family member, Jared Bailin, who serves as President and Chief Executive Officer. Jared, along with a team of more than 50 highly skilled machinists, programmers, customer service, and technical personnel, continue to carry on the values established by Dave and Ivor in 1971.

Going forward, Eagle Performance Plastics is committed to advancing its capabilities, technical expertise and capacity to serve the growing needs of original equipment manufacturers nationwide.
