When it comes to attracting employees, quality, affordable housing plays a vital role — and is a demand many communities across the region struggle to meet.

The one-day Workforce Housing & Development Conference on Nov. 7 at Lambeau Field in Green Bay is designed for housing lenders and financial institutions, and professionals involved in real estate development, government and economic development. They will come away with the information and resources they need to develop and strengthen workforce housing options in their communities.

Topics featured at the conference include: trends and demographics in housing; importance of place in economic development; how communities are addressing housing needs; innovative design for affordable housing; financing incentives; and pursuing public and private partnerships.

Keynote speaker Mark Eppli, director of the James A. Graaskamp Center for Real Estate at the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Wisconsin Business School, will discuss national trends related to housing.

Following Eppli’s presentation, Jason Vangalis, a strategic economic development project manager with Ady Advantage, will share information about the innovative actions some communities are taking to address their housing needs and how housing relates to both economic development and workforce attraction.

Vangalis has worked with more than 100 communities around the country on a variety of projects from developing economic development strategies to the importance of placemaking.

After lunch, a variety of speakers will present 20-by-20 presentations — also known as  Pecha Kuchas — on a variety of topics related to housing and economic development. During 20-by-20 sessions, speakers spend 20 seconds each on 20 PowerPoint slides that automatically advance as the speaker talks to create concise, fast-paced presentations.

The Workforce Housing & Development Conference will run from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Nov. 7 at the Lambeau Field Atrium in Green Bay. To register for the event or for more information, please visit insightonbusiness.com/events/housing.
