Sarah Spang views Annie’s Fountain City Cafe in Fond du Lac as her third home. The director of entrepreneurship and innovation with Envision Greater Fond du Lac and founder of TEDxFondduLac admits that besides home and work, she often can be found at Annie’s grabbing a caffeinated beverage, lunch, dinner or whatever suits her cravings.
“It is a cozy place where you feel right at home. You see everyone here,” Spang says as several women pass by and say hello. “We serve on committees together. This is a great gathering spot.”
The restaurant’s menu features homestyle meals using locally sourced products, while its walls are filled with artwork from local artists (yes, it’s for sale) and displays featuring kitchenware you may recognize from your grandma’s house.
Annie’s fare includes breakfast and lunch foods ranging from quiche and cinnamon swirl stuffed French toast to homemade sandwiches, wraps and soups. It also boasts a bakery case full of mouthwatering options. Annie’s Pick 2 option allows you to try a half sandwich paired with the soup of the day ($5.99).
Annie’s is a spot to linger, with its shelves full of games and friendly employees. The restaurant’s interior recently was remodeled using a grant from the Wisconsin Main Street Makeover Project, and an outdoor seating area was added.
