Happy birthday to Insight!

Brian Rasmussen and I have vivid memories of our launch party, when the first issue of Insight debuted in April 2008. It was a dark and stormy night, but it was so heartening to see hundreds of people turn out. Each guest had the chance to have his or her portrait taken and featured with the Insight banner on a wooden plaque.

In that spirit of fun and celebration, we decided to print two entirely different covers for this issue: one featuring Brian and the other, me. Our printer sent a different one to every other name on our mailing list. (The opposite version appears on our table of contents.)

And yes, we’re 10! To commemorate the occasion, we enlisted the help of A2Z Design to redesign the magazine. Same great cover — but a whole lot of new features inside. Starting with this page, where the editor’s note is abbreviated to make room for content to drive you online, all the way to the back, where “Power Lunch” features a great restaurant idea for business meetings, we offer plenty of fresh ways to present information you can look forward to each month.

“Reader Recommended” offers a smattering of cool things our readers love (page 11). “Personalities” is a Q&A with a regional mover and shaker (page 12). “Places” combines our regional news with our monthly spotlight on a specific part of the New North (page 16).

Our “Insight Insider” (page 34) provides a platform for articles we hope will become “talk” pieces that give you a glimpse into business trends and a bit of behind-the-news stories.

“Side Hustle” (page 48) introduces you to people either moonlighting to fulfill a passion or starting a whole new business outside their regular workday. We’ve enhanced some of our standby features as well, offering not just one but three shorter spotlights on small businesses, for example. And we think you’ll really like the way our new “People” news reads.

Our cover story by Nikki Kallio gives a little perspective into how far we’ve come. We also feature key partners A2Z Design and Image Studios. Thanks to you, our loyal readers, for your part in our success!
