Get to know: Ben Fauske
No matter who a person is, everyone suffers from confidence issues at some point in their lives — whether it’s overconfidence or under confidence. After seeing how both affected others and himself, Sherwood resident Ben Fauske decided to dive in and learn more about the topic.
“I was working with my mentor and talking about the confidence continuum and where people sit along it,” Fauske says. “It’s hard to talk about confidence and we came up with six different profiles to help the discussion.”
That research led Fauske to publish “Authentic Confidence: The Secret to Loving Your Work and Leading an Unstoppable Career,” which has become a must-read book for business professionals, including students at the Schneider School of Business’s Center for Exceptional Leadership at St. Norbert College.
Even without the book, people can self-assess where they are on the confidence continuum by taking an online screening. That information provides executive coaches a place to start from, says Fauske, who’s also a certified professional behavioral analyst who provides executive coaching, workshops and keynote addresses.
“Coaching confidence isn’t easy; it’s not a one size fits all kind of thing,” he says. “When people do the internal work, you definitely notice the exterior change.”
The key to authentic confidence is having pride in work plus humility in relationships, Fauske says. Discovering authentic confidence also can lead to stronger leadership skills.
“Our goal is to help those leaders identify their challenges and help them through them,” he says.
