Conger Industries was Born…
in 1955 when Lloyd and Dorothy Conger left Sheboygan for an opportunity to start an aftermarket forklift parts distribution business in Green Bay. Naming the business Lift Parts Service Co., they set up shop in a small garage where Lloyd repaired forklifts while Dorothy handled the daily office work. Their children, Gary (11), Bruce (7) and Tana (4) also helped the family business by doing miscellaneous jobs or playing nearby.
In 1970, Lloyd was approached by a gregarious Toyota distributor and was convinced to take on the brand against his own convictions of not wanting to work with foreign companies. This decision has become
the single biggest competitive advantage today for Conger as Toyota forklifts have been ranked as the No. 1 forklift brand in the industry for
18 consecutive years.
In light of taking on the Toyota forklift line and additional growth, Lloyd and Dorothy renamed the business to Conger Industries in 1965.
In 1975, they moved the business to its present location on South Ashland Ave. in Green Bay.
Five years later, Lloyd abruptly decided to retire by walking into work with an “I’m leaving at noon announcement,” leaving Gary and his brother Bruce in charge. The brothers then purchased their parents’ interest in the business in 1984, with Gary buying out his brother Bruce in 1996.
Beginning of a new era
Gary’s daughter, Anika, became an integral part of the family business in 1997 when she took a receptionist position. Through hard work and dedication, she worked her way into her current role as president.
In 2012, one of her first major accomplishments was leading the
company through a building expansion that doubled the size of the
Green Bay location. This expansion was necessary to fully support the growth of the business through the recession and into the future.
