In September 1944, the late Lyle and Ellen Lamers started Lamers Bus Lines with one used school bus, which they used to transport students from the Grant School District and Nicolet High School (now part of the West De Pere School District) near Green Bay. He was a farmer and she was a teacher. Together they made sure that students in the area were able to make it to school. From that first bus, the business grew and 75 years later, Lamers Bus Lines provides busing services from their 40 Wisconsin locations, plus Upper Michigan and Central Florida.
In addition to school bus services, Lamers has expanded into other areas of transportation, including motor coach charters, tour & travel, para-transit, special event limo coaches, and more.
Since 1963 and 1978 respectively, brothers Allen and Kevin Lamers — along with their children — have taken over the day to day responsibilities of running the company and the fourth generation of Lamers has started to work at the company as well.
“We’re lucky to have people like that, who are dedicated and truly like members of the family,” says Allen Lamers.
In return, the company and staff are dedicated to the communities they serve. Since the company’s start, Lamers Bus Lines has shown its dedication to our local schools and universities, and likes to donate significantly back to these institutions. In addition, Lamers regularly donates to many worthy charities and veterans organizations.
As Lamers Bus Lines celebrates the 75th anniversary this year, the Lamers family and staff look forward to serving many more generations traveling to school and throughout life.
