Milwaukee’s George Webb restaurant chain will offer free burgers following the Brewers’ 12th straight win, as the team beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 12-5 on Wednesday, the Associated Press reports.
For decades, the restaurant chain has been promising free burgers if the local baseball team won a certain number of consecutive games, dating back to when Milwaukee was home to the minor-league Brewers of the old American Association. Over the years, the number made its way from 17 to 13, and then later to 12.
The Brewers opened the 1987 season with 13 wins in a row, and over 170,000 burgers were given away to mark the occasion. The team accomplished the feat again in 2018, closing the regular season with eight regular-season victories and four playoff wins.
George Webb is set to announce the details of the latest giveaway on Thursday.
