YMCA of the Fox Cities celebrates 130 years

The YMCA of the Fox Cities was established 130 years ago in 1888 with the founding of the Appleton YMCA on College Avenue over Pardee’s Grocery Store. Originally, the Y consisted of a reading room, small gymnasium, parlor and game room. A lot has changed in the years since. The Y has grown to five locations throughout the Fox Cities and includes multiple pools, fitness facilities and classrooms for a variety of educational programming.

As times and needs in the community have changed, the Y has stayed a mission-driven organization, focusing on helping people of all ages, races, religions and income levels. From our onsite before and after school programs, to martial arts classes and ballroom dance lessons, we offer something for every member of the community. Our programs are constantly growing and developing to offer members and families the best experience.

In addition to our youth and family-focused programs, the Y is proud to partner with companies throughout the Fox Valley to enhance their own workplace wellness initiatives. We work together to develop a healthier community through onsite fitness classes, health education and membership discounts.

Our success is made possible by the generous support of our members, volunteers, staff and community. Here at the Y, we know that we are more than a gym, we are a community. That’s what has been bringing members in for the last 130 years, and that’s what will keep us going for 130 more.

Our five Fox Cities Y locations are Apple Creek in north Appleton, Neenah-Menasha, Fox West in Greenville, Heart of the Valley in Kimberly and downtown Appleton. The Y also operates Camp Nan A Bo Sho in Lakewood.
