Krueger’s True Value in Neenah is closing after 159 years in business.

Owners Jim and Brian Webb announced July 19 they are retiring and could not come to terms with a buyer so they decided to liquidate the assets and close. Store ads say they will offer up to 50 percent off of everything in the store including fixtures

“We made every effort to sell our business to a local or distant hardware retailer” said co-owner Brian Webb. “We had considerable interest but could not get to the finish line with a prospective buyer.”

They said in a social media post that they hope to find a buyer for the 54,000-square-foot store located on Winneconne Avenue in Neenah. The store relocated to that site in 1972 from its downtown location where it had been founded by William Krueger.

“It’s been an honor to serve our community.” said co-owner Jim Webb. “I’ve been doing this for 58 years. It’s all I’ve done professionally. It will be hard to close our doors but it’s time.”
