Since 1975, Robinson has been a contract manufacturing metal fabrication company for OEM customers. Today the company has grown into a $157 million business; it has increased its team by 50% and manufacturing space by 75% during the past five years, adding a facility in Manitowoc in 2018 and a second De Pere facility early in 2020.
“Revenue has consistently increased as we’ve added new equipment, manufacturing floor space and capabilities,” says Sam Thomas, vice president/COO. That includes $4.5 million in capital equipment targeting automation and robotics, he says, “which enhances jobs and gives our team members the flexibility to focus on other value-added activities.”
Robinson has kept a focus on company culture of ownership and community that has led to a higher-than-average employee retention rate for the industry, which Thomas says results in better relationships with suppliers and customers. In 2023, the company added an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP).
While COVID-19 forced Robinson to work strategically through multiple supply chain issues, it remained committed to reliable manufacturing performance that “earned us significant customer supplier awards,” Thomas says. “This, in turn, earned us new business opportunities that generated additional company growth.”
