In the few short years since Packer Freight launched in 2019, the logistics intermediary has already quickly expanded its market presence, says President Jake Heim.
“Emphasizing a personalized service has helped us build strong, loyal relationships with shippers, carriers and other logistics companies,” Heim says, and the company’s high referral rate demonstrates its success.
While Packer Freight operates across the lower 48 and Canada, it concentrates on the Midwest and focuses on spot-market freight, same-day, next-day and day-after service. “Typically, our competitors focus on long-term contract freight,” Heim says.
Packer Freight also chose “not to compete with asset-based trucking companies that have established relationships with shippers,” Heim says. “Instead, our intention is to complement those relationships.”
With the COVID-19 pandemic hitting shortly after the company launched, and the subsequent volatility in the market, adaptability has been key.
The company also focuses strongly on employee engagement and retention, including through flexible work arrangements and in-office amenities like a putting green. “A positive work environment leads to higher employee engagement and retention, which ultimately leads to consistent, high-quality service,” Heim says.
