When YMCA of Appleton and YMCA of Neenah‑Menasha merged in 2002, it opened the door for expanded growth and impact, both of which have been magnified since 2023 — membership has grown 31% and programs 21% while philanthropic support for the six‑branch organization has continued to strengthen.
That growth is no coincidence, says President and CEO Bret Salscheider, who notes the organization invested $3.1 million in wage increases and $5.6 million in facility and equipment enhancements between 2023‑2025. It has also increased its outreach.
“We’ve deepened relationships with school districts, health care partners, nonprofits, community organizations and local businesses,” Salscheider says.
Child care offerings, greater membership flexibility, new digital marketing and services and adding programs like ForeverWell for individuals aged 55+ have ensured greater access as well as the opportunity, Salscheider adds, to serve the community at every stage of life.
