A campaign has been launched to raise $2 million to create the Door County Children’s Museum.

The museum is the brainchild of Amanda Huehns a parent of two and resident of Door County. Huehns says there is a lack of accessible, year-round spaces where families could gather, learn, and play together.

Huehns says it’s not just about exhibits, but about creating experiences that spark curiosity, build confidence, and bring people together. The design will incorporate elements of local culture, nature, and creativity, while also keeping long-term sustainability and impact in mind.

Huehns serves as a funeral director at her husband’s family-owned funeral home, where she has spent her career walking alongside families during some of life’s most difficult moments. That experience gives her a deep appreciation for time together, shared experiences, and the memories made with loved ones.

The project is being guided by a board of directors made up of community members who share the same commitment to creating something meaningful and lasting for local families.

The goal is to open the museum in the fall.
