Eric Friedland counts his father among his mentors. “He was one of my first bosses and taught me a ton about how to manage a team of different personalities,” he says. When Friedland worked at the Peshtigo Times as a sports reporter, his boss Mike Gardon was instrumental in his professional development. “I still think about the way he treated me when I probably didn’t deserve the understanding and patience he displayed,” Friedland says.

Friedland is still involved with youth sports and also supports animal shelters as well as Alzheimer’s awareness. With both of his grandmothers having experienced dementia, Friedland is aware of the toll it can take.

While working in fraud prevention, Friedland “developed written procedures for investigating financial elder abuse, which is about the most personal of all financial crimes,” he says.

Friedland is proud of earning his master’s degree in 2015 from UW-Green Bay after dropping out of college in 2005. “The ability to bounce back and not accept failure will forever be one of my proudest accomplishments,” he says.

Friedland and his wife, Natalie, will be welcoming a son to join 14-year-old daughter Maddie.
