Industry Alliance Director / Age 39
New North, Inc.
One of Jason Mathwig’s proudest accomplishments was “successfully offering and implementing an array of in-person summer camps the summer of 2021 as COVID-19 was still very much in play,” he says, thinking back to his role as executive manager of education outreach at UW-Green Bay.
Now, in his role at New North, “Jason has been instrumental in the growth for both the NEW Digital Alliance and NEW Construction Alliance in the last year,” says nominator Rebecca Deschane.
Mathwig says his first professional job as an admissions counselor at UW-Eau Claire was a turning point in his career: “My whole professional journey and career I owe back to that hire.”
In Northeast Wisconsin, Mathwig sees growing future talent as the biggest issue. “Ultimately, this is why my job actually exists,” he says. “We will need to be strategic and creative in the coming years and decades to attract and retain the talent we need to continue to grow and thrive as a region.”
Mathwig ran track & field at UW-Eau Claire as a sprinter and has a master’s degree in sports management from Concordia University. He and his wife, Amy are new parents to a 6-month-old son, Callen.
