Mai Nu Vang’s dedication to education, DEI efforts and cultural preservation is evident both within her role as a middle school teacher at GBAPS — where she’s served for seven years — and within the community.
Recognized as one of the 2023 Top 40 Most Influential Asian American Leaders in Wisconsin, she serves on the board of ACEL NE-Wisconsin, an Asian professional organization.
At school, she coaches soccer and advises two Asian clubs. “I am Hmong, and I love being able to share that part about who I am,” Vang says.
In August 2022, Vang launched Nkauj Zaj Dance Academy in Green Bay, and she is in the process of creating a nonprofit, Maiv Passion Foundation, Ltd., to create programs that will elevate Hmong youth.
In 2022, she completed a master’s degree from UW Oshkosh in human services leadership. Vang has a stepdaughter named Eva with her husband, Xue Vang, and the couple is expecting a baby boy in June.
