Green Bay Doulas, LLC
“Founding Green Bay Doulas was a pivotal moment that shaped my leadership and advocacy skills,” says Emily Jacobson, who has led the organization for 10 years.
Jacobson wishes people understood that doula care — which provides physical, emotional and informational support during pregnancy and labor — is not a luxury. It’s essential.
“Supporting birthing people leads to better health outcomes, lower health care costs and stronger families,” she says. “But it’s not a truly sustainable career until we have Medicaid and insurance reimbursement options.”
Jacobson, an Edgewood College graduate and co-founder of House of Hope-Diaper Green Bay, is passionate about expanding access to maternal and infant health care, particularly in underserved communities. She also serves as the executive director of the Wisconsin Doulas Association and is a Brown County Supervisor for District 4.
During COVID, Jacobson faced the challenge of a cash flow shortage. “By reassessing priorities, embracing adaptability and leaning into my community for support, I was able to navigate the crisis and emerge stronger,” she says. “That experience reinforced the importance of resilience and strategic thinking in both business and advocacy.”
