Controller / Age 35
Miron Construction Co., Inc.
John Wagner says his greatest influences include the people he’s worked for in past roles at Baker Tilly and Plexus, and, most importantly, Dean Basten and the owners group at Miron, where he has served as controller for three and a half years. He says all of his mentors gave him “chances at progressively bigger and better things, and set me up for success.”
Wagner says it’s been most rewarding to lead a highly capable accounting team at Miron.
“We really get to focus on the broader and more impactful challenges because there’s 100 percent confidence that all of the little, but critical, day-to-day items are being done well,” he says.
Wagner serves on the boards of Big Brothers Big Sisters of East Central Wisconsin, Bergstrom-Mahler Museum of Glass and Fox Valley Technical College Foundation, each of which is focused on kids in some way.
But to make a difference in your community, Wagner says you don’t have to serve on a board or committee: “The butterfly effect is real, and every small good work and single dollar can make a major difference that you may or may not ever see.”
