Kaitlin Deschane says volunteering “from when I first started walking has been the greatest influence on my choice of career.” That volunteerism started with activities like helping put up posters and serving as a runner for community events. For two decades, she helped hide eggs for the Crivitz Business Association’s annual Easter egg hunt. She is now president of the organization.

Deschane earned bachelor’s degrees in history and nonprofit organization management at Lakeland University, and she went on to earn a master’s in history from Harvard University Extension School, the achievement of which she is most proud.

“I was diagnosed with dyslexia, which made it hard for me to learn in a traditional way,” Deschane says. “I have learned creative methods that work for me and allow me to apply such thinking to all aspects of my career.”

Her skills as a historian “have become a great asset in all jobs I have had, as it has given me the skills to conduct research finding solutions, ideas and partners,” Deschane says.

Deschane is “forever a proponent of lifelong learning,” and as such, she is currently pursuing a second master’s degree. She also was recently elected to the Crivitz School District board.
