Nonprofits have figured strongly in Maddy Szymanski’s professional journey. Ten years ago, when was a sophomore in college, Szymanski founded Lucky 7 Dog Rescue, which supports dogs in need. It remains one of the most influential experiences of her professional life.

“It sparked my passion for volunteerism, nonprofit work and building strong community connections,” Szymanski says.

One of the most valuable lessons she learned through that work was the importance of support. The volunteer-run organization has thrived since 2015, she says, “thanks to the unwavering dedication of our volunteers and the incredible support from our community.”

At CP, which provides comprehensive services to people with disabilities, Szymanski has held her current position for seven years. She emphasizes that nonprofits are not only service providers, “they are catalysts for systemic change, often addressing gaps that are significantly overlooked.”

“Being part of something bigger than myself — working alongside passionate individuals to support causes that matter — has given my career deep purpose,” says Szymanski, who has degrees in English and business from UW Oshkosh and is currently an MBA student at St. Norbert College.
