Director of Impact and Operations / Age 32
Bay Area Workforce Development Board
Sarah Klapper says workforce development “is so much more than just finding jobs — it’s about unlocking opportunities, equipping individuals with the skills to build lasting careers and fostering self-sufficiency. It’s about building stronger futures for individuals, businesses and entire communities.”
In her current role since 2023, Klapper says young leaders are driving change in their communities: “We bring fresh perspectives, challenge outdated systems and push for solutions that create lasting impact.”
Klapper, who earned a bachelor’s degree in health sciences from UW-Stevens Point, was not accepted right away into a graduate program for occupational therapy. She instead took a gap year with AmeriCorps and worked with children in a low-literacy program.
“It was one of the best decisions I ever made,” says Klapper, who went on to complete a master’s in therapeutic recreation at UW-La Crosse, which “pivoted my entire journey … my degree and experiences all transition into the work I do now.”
