Development Director, Big Brothers Big Sisters of East Central Wisconsin
As development director for a key youth-serving nonprofit, Kayla Fischer says the economic climate and record levels of youth stress and violence have made her job a significant challenge over the past two years — but it’s a challenge she considers a career calling.
“I strongly believe it is our responsibility to take care of today’s youth,” she says.
Fischer says BBBSECW CEO Jaime Kriewaldt took a risk hiring her with no prior fund development experience; she has not only thrived in the role but also developed profound gratitude for the fact that she can now work every day for the betterment of kids and the community.
“Nothing beats that,” Fischer says.
Surprising fact: I am an identical twin, and I have identical twin half-brothers who are just a few days shy of being exactly 6 years younger than my sister and me.
Second career: I’d own a yoga/Pilates studio that offered child care so parents could take care of their own physical health with less time/availability restraint.
Personal theme song: “Shake It Off” by Taylor Swift. First, I’m a Swiftie (The Eras Tour was truly one of the most magical experiences of my life). Secondly, there’s nothing better than when that song plays at a wedding, bar, or any place of gathering, and it just pulls everyone together. Everyone is dancing, smiling and cheerful, regardless of if they like Taylor Swift or not. And that’s the type of thing that really fills my cup — mutual joy shared by others.
