Orthopedic Surgeon and Co-Founder / CEO, STREAMD
A board-certified hip and knee replacement surgeon at Orthopedic and Sports Institute of the Fox Valley, Sturgeon Bay native Kevin Campbell founded the company STREAMD, an innovative text messaging platform that supports patients through surgery.
Campbell says, even in his short career, he has seen the health care industry change dramatically and he is passionate about delivering patient-centered care and services despite growing administrative burden.
“Identify a problem you’re passionate about solving, and then dedicate yourself to solving it,” Campbell advises. “I saw patients needing more support after surgery, and staff struggling to manage everything, and I couldn’t let that problem go. Whether it’s medicine, technology, or anything else, the best careers are built around problems you care about deeply enough to work on for years.”
Personal passion: I’m an avid sailor. I grew up sailing in Door County, captained my college sailing team, and have done some significant sailing trips. Our family keeps a sailboat on a mooring in Fish Creek, and it’s one of the ways we slow down during the summer.
Personal theme song: “Ten Thousand Hours” by Macklemore
The region’s biggest challenge: Health care costs. Families here are paying more out of pocket every year while insurance coverage gets thinner, and at the same time, physician reimbursement continues to decline. It’s squeezing both sides. I see it every day in my practice — patients delaying necessary surgeries because of cost concerns. We need to find ways to deliver high-quality care more efficiently, which is a big part of why I’m building STREAMD. Technology can help physicians do more for their patients without the overhead that drives costs up for everyone.
