Senior Financial Advisor and Vice President, Merrill
Lucas Calawerts is in the business of building — from a lawn care business in middle and high school, a financial advisory practice in his twenties and now a team he wants to grow to $1 billion.
The Green Bay native joined Merrill in 2016 after leaving a competing firm without an offer in hand. “I had to go back to cutting lawns for three months,” he says. Today he holds triple senior titles at one of the country’s most recognized wealth management firms and has earned Merrill’s Circle of Excellence recognition.
His biggest challenge is simply keeping up with demand — he’s hired additional advisors over the last eight months to manage the growth.
Calawerts has supported The Automobile Gallery as its first “Pit Crew” member, a fitting affiliation for someone who can’t live without driving his car.
“It’s my ‘me’ time,” he says.
Current reading material: “The Sense of Urgency” by John Kotter and “The Investors Paradox” by Brian Portnoy.
I wish I’d known: how truly competitive this business landscape is; always work as if someone is right behind you trying to take your place.
Best advice: Procrastination creates big problems. Take care of small problems immediately as they arise.
