The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has asked the state legislature’s Joint Committee on Finance for access to a $10 million settlement paid by Tyco Fire Products, LP to the PFAS Trust Fund.
The June 2026 settlement agreement resolved State of Wisconsin v. Tyco Fire Products, LP, Brown County Case No. 22-CX-0001 relating to per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) contamination from Tyco’s Fire Technology Center facility in Marinette.
Following the court’s approval of the settlement, the DNR hosted opportunities for community input on potential use of the funds. A top priority identified by community members was to provide safe drinking water to residents with private wells impacted by PFAS in and around the Expanded Site Investigation Area.
The DNR’s potential use of the funds is based on this and other priorities identified by the impacted community. The actions included in the DNR’s request are complementary to the actions that Tyco is required to take through the settlement.
The DNR anticipates mailing a survey to residents in the ESIA in September to share information on current options for safe drinking water and to gain insight on residents’ questions and current preference for a safe drinking water option for private wells impacted with PFAS in the ESIA.
The DNR will share information on the outcomes of its request to the state legislature and the survey with the community.
