ABC of Wisconsin honored 43 different projects at the 2024 Projects of Distinction Awards Banquet in Wisconsin Dells.

The Project of the Year award went to Consolidated Construction Co., Appleton, for their work on the Enerbase Cooperative Cenex C-Store with Amazon’s Just Walk Out Technology. The 4,373 square foot smart convenience store is located in Minot, North Dakota. It incorporates artificial intelligence that blends computer vision, sensor fusion and deep learning using 233 strategically placed cameras mounted on a custom overhead Unistrut grid and a controlled-entry gate system. The team balanced advanced technology with aesthetics, using natural light and camouflaging techniques to maintain a welcoming atmosphere.

In the past, employees were hired to stand behind a checkout counter, but the new Minot store features technology to perform those tasks. Enerbase employees now provide true customer service washing windshields, pumping gas, checking tire pressure.

Kraemer Brothers of Plain, was awarded with the Built On Merit Award for utilizing more ABC members on a project than any other contractor who participated in the awards process. Kraemer Brothers employed 23 contractor, supplier and associate members for the construction of the Usona Institute Campus in Fitchburg.

The Projects of Distinction Awards are designed to celebrate the best construction projects built by ABC of Wisconsin’s members. Judges base their scores on the safety record of each project first, then evaluate the other features of each project, including craftsmanship, execution and coordination, scheduling, overcoming difficult or unusual challenges, owner satisfaction, and overall distinctiveness.

“We know that our member companies do excellent work. The Projects of Distinction awards highlight the breadth of their skills and craftsmanship,” said Kelly Tourdot, president of Associated Builders and Contractors of Wisconsin. “It’s notable that safety also plays a key role in the awards rankings. Once again, merit shop companies have demonstrated an exceptional level of safety, while building incredible projects.”
