Job support programs are reeling from a lack of federal funding thanks to the government shutdown, according to a Wisconsin Public Radio report.
The Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development said approximately 75 percent of its $500 million operating budget is federally funded. The funding normally supports career counseling, unemployment administration and workforce initiatives.
Other items affected include a state-level jobs report that can’t be released because the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics has suspended operations. The shutdown also affects the issuing of H-2A visas for temporary seasonal agricultural workers.
The department is currently using carryover federal dollars and state funds to keep operations running.
