Appleton-based Armament Systems and Procedures, a manufacturer of law enforcement equipment and training, will host IMPACT — a tactical training and networking event for police in Appleton Sept. 8 to 17.
The centerpiece of IMPACT Week is the ASP Trainer Certification, where existing law enforcement trainers are recertified and nominated candidates find out if they have what it takes to become ASP trainers. The physically and mentally challenging, multi-day program is considered the toughest training program of its kind, and no class has ever achieved a 100% pass rate.
The course focuses on less lethal tools and tactics, including expandable batons, tactical flashlights, restraint systems and pepper spray. Fast-moving, high-stress drills test endurance and subject matter retention, while candidates are also evaluated on their ability to teach back the topics they have learned.
ASP does not charge officers for training. The company covers all tuition and equipment costs; participants are responsible only for travel. ASP invests nearly $2 million each year in this effort.
“The training is extremely difficult because the job is extremely difficult,” says ASP Founder and CEO Kevin Parsons. “And it is provided at no cost because inadequate training is an enormous problem in law enforcement. Money should never be an obstacle to officers getting the instruction they need to stay safe.”
IMPACT Week will bring guests from fifteen countries—and from as far away as New Zealand—to Appleton. Activities are closed to the public.
