Officials at the Appleton International Airport officially opened a new hangar for general aviation aircraft May 7. The 31,000-square foot-hangar was funded with a federal grant at a cost of $7.4 million.

The Appleton Flight Center is located south of the commercial airport and offers maintenance, fueling, and hangar leases/rentals for general aviation (the industry term for private aircraft). General aviation landings at ATW are up 14.2% (first quarter of 2024 vs first quarter of 2023) with 3,107 landings from January to March of 2024. The Appleton Flight Center currently has two existing hangars which are both full, and the new hangar is needed to accommodate the growth in chartered planes using the facility.

“This expansion is in direct response to the growing need in the region,” said Appleton Airport Director Abe Weber. “The economic growth in Northeast Wisconsin is evidenced by the amount of businesses using private air travel to increase convenience for their employees and their customers.”
