The World Axe Throwing League and the World Knife Throwing League have awarded over 500 bids to competitors for the 2025 World Axe & Knife Throwing Championship. The competition will take place April 3 to 6 at the Fox Cities Exhibition Center in Appleton.
The 2025 Championships will be the largest event in WATL and WKTL history. Throwers from 35 US states, including 28 competitors from Wisconsin, along with throwers from four countries, will compete for world titles in five throwing disciplines: Standard Knife, Knife Duals, Hatchet Duals, Hatchet, and Big Axe. Included in the field of competitors are these reigning world champions: Tyler Flynn and John Doepke (Hatchet Duals), Dylan Teets (Big Axe), Garrett Gneiting (Standard Hatchet), and World Knife Throwing Champion Lucas Johnson.
“We’re excited to come back to Appleton for this year’s World’s,” says Sarah Sed, Commissioner of the WATL. “The throwers are looking forward to some intense competition against the best throwers in the world. We’re expecting all the games to be close, making every throw count as new and veteran throwers battle their way through the brackets.”
Throwing kicks off April 3 with the Knife Duals competition starting at 4 p.m. On April 4, Standard Knife Throwing begins at 8:30 a.m., and the Standard Hatchet competition will commence at 1 p.m. Satruday at 8:30 a.m, Big Axe competition will be followed by the two-member team event of Hatchet Duals at 3 p.m. The finals of all five disciplines will be live-streamed April 6 for broadcast on the WATL and WKTL YouTube Channels. Doors open at 11 a.m. on Sunday with competition starting at noon.
The general public is encouraged to attend. Sunday’s Finals will have a capacity of roughly 400 spectators.
