Party City, which has 10 stores in Wisconsin including in Appleton and Green Bay, announced it is going out of business.

The company announced it was layoff much of its corporate staff just days before Christmas and planned to close all its stores by Feb. 28.

Party City had declared bankruptcy in January 2023, but continued to struggle to pay off its remaining $800,000 debt. The company had closed more than 80 locations in the past two years.

In a separate announcement, Big Lots said attempts to sell the company had fallen through and it will start going out of business sales at 963 locations.

The company had announced sale of its assets to Nexus Capital Management, but issued a statement Dec. 19 that it no longer anticipated the sale would take place. The company said it would continue to seek a buyer.
