Green Bay community members are invited to attend the Brown County Seed Library Launch March 8 from noon to 3 p.m. at the Brown County Central Library, 515 Pine St., Green Bay.

The launch will feature educational activities and crafts with presentations and demonstrations related to seeds and gardening. The launch is free and open to all ages.

“Providing seeds is an act of empowerment, giving people the ability to provide for themselves. It helps bring people closer to their food source, keeps things more local, allows people to try new types of seeds that they might not have,” Brown County Seed Library Coordinator Melissa Wass said. The Brown County Seed Library will be replenishing its supply as well as adding new seeds (golden zucchini, switchgrass, and sweet pepperoncini Italian) to its catalog.

Attendees can create seed art, making seed tape, seed harvesting, color activity sheets, investigating seeds under a microscope, and much more! Green Bay Conservation Corps speaker Maria Otto will discuss invasive plants; John Hermanson from Clean Water Action Council will teach participants how to compost food waste; and Britney Arnold from the De Pere School District will give tips on seed starting.
